What to Expect During Hardwood Flooring Installation

Knowing what happens before, during and after hardwood installation makes the project easier to plan. Here is a straightforward look at the process.

A hardwood installation usually begins before the first plank is placed. The existing flooring and subfloor need to be evaluated so the new surface has a solid, level foundation. Depending on the project, old flooring may need to be removed and transitions or trim may need attention.nnThe room should be cleared as much as possible before work starts. Furniture, fragile items and anything that blocks access should be moved out of the installation area. Your installer can explain what needs to be handled before the scheduled day.nnDuring installation, layout matters. Plank direction, starting points, doorway transitions and cuts around walls all affect the finished appearance. Careful planning helps prevent awkward narrow pieces or distracting transitions.nnAfter the flooring is installed, finishing work may include trim, transitions and cleanup. Before putting the room fully back together, review the floor and make sure the final details are complete. A little planning beforehand makes the whole process smoother.
