How to Prepare Your Home for New Flooring Installation

A little preparation can make flooring installation faster and easier. Use this checklist before the scheduled work begins.

Start by clearing furniture and personal items from the rooms where flooring will be installed. Small objects, wall decorations near work areas and fragile items should be moved somewhere safe. Ask ahead of time how larger furniture will be handled.nnMake sure installers can easily access the home and work area. Clear hallways and entry paths, and plan for pets to stay safely away from open doors, tools and active work zones.nnDiscuss existing flooring before installation day. Removal requirements, disposal, subfloor condition and transitions to other rooms can affect the project. Knowing the plan ahead of time reduces surprises.nnIf appliances or plumbing fixtures are involved, confirm who is responsible for moving or disconnecting them. Finally, plan for normal noise and limited access to the room while work is underway. Preparation makes the installation day much smoother.
